We proudly present and welcome some of the world’s finest urban artists of our time at Wanrooij Gallery
A New York-based artist known for using multiple layers of stencils to achieve photorealistic imagery. Called a painter with a photographer’s eye, Hicks’ work has largely focused on the perception of the urban environment, at times humanizing its architectural angles and structures, and at others using its vastness to explore identity, awe, and loneliness.
emerged as an urban artist who hung tape art on street lamps. Using the night as his setting and sepia-toned tape as his medium on acrylic glass, his work dotted the street lamps of many European capitals like London, Madrid, Lisbon, and Berlin. The freehand craftwork and vividness of his sepia toned creations, straight lines and sharp subjects give Max Zorn’s settings a pure and believable depth. His characters are depicted like a James Ellroy novel, revealing the menace in the shadow and an indefinite fragility behind the nostalgic glamor days.
Natural catastrophes, civil and ethnic wars, and urban riots… he comes face to face with the complexity of the human condition and the random events by which it is fashioned. Constantly breaking down barriers, he is, by turn, an investigator deconstructing the great sagas of contemporary life, and a portraitist. His photographs of athletes, artists, ecclesiastics and politicians have become iconic. His images have earned him a number of prizes, including four prestigious World Press Awards.
Is a Berlin based street-artist known for guerrilla-style who works with delicate stenciled works and installations in an Arte Povera style that consist of weathered and decaying materials. Xoooox is, in fact, regarded as the first German street artist that has come to prominence on the international art market. Though the artist’s works can be seen throughout the city his identity remains a secret to prevent against charges of public vandalism. The life-size stencils of professionally styled photo models form the leitmotif of the figurative studies and scrutinize the worship cult and the seduction techniques of haute couture.
